BLM Meetings for the Hollister Resource Management Plan Revision

August 1, 2004

First, these meetings are not about the existing Draft EIS currently in progress.  The BLM has said that those meetings will be held in September. Nevertheless, you should read the rest of this page and take action.

Every 15-20 years each BLM office updates it's overall plan for the area managed by the office.  This is due to the changing nature of the environment, our population, land holdings and many other factors.  Over the past twenty years, the Hollister BLM has land traded and blocked up large areas of San Benito County that they have closed to motorized access.  Now is an opportunity for the OHV community to give input to the BLM.  For instance, the road to Joaquin Rocks should be opened for public use to that you could drive to the vicinity of the rocks to visit or to perhaps hunt the area.  Wouldn't it be nice to have a dual sport route from the Panoche area all the way to Clear Creek?  How about some trails on the Coast Dairies lands north of Santa Cruz?

These are the types of issues that the BLM must address.  There will be three scoping meetings this month.  Information about these meetings is contained in the BLM news release that the Hollister office has not seen fit to publish on their own web site.

Meeting dates, times and locations:

August 11, 2004 in Coalinga, California at the Coalinga Public Library, 305 N. Fourth Street, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.,

August 12, 2004 in Hollister, California at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 649 San Benito Street, Room 105, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.,

News Release

The news release came from the state office web site because there is nothing about this plan revision on the Hollister office web site.  Maybe they don't want any input from the public for this plan just like they didn't want any for the Clear Creek plan!?

The Salinas Ramblers encourage the OHV community to turn out for a meeting in your area to let them know we want to see more OHV opportunities included in this new plan.  We will have a club run to the Hollister meeting in colors.
